I usually would run to Gou Kee for a bowl of fat noodles, but tonight, I was in the mood for some rice – I do not really like rice with Canto food, so sushi was the solution! Across the street from a popular sushi place on Gage street, there stood another less elaborate Japanese place! “Sushi First” . It was a tiny place, only 3 tables and about 6 places in front of the sashimi bar.
As hunger strike, I was not able to think straight, I immediately ordered what I always liked – Grilled eel hand roll, Crisply fried salmon skin hand roll, salmon roe warship, crab roe warship. And some sashimi – which I normally do not eat, unless it was really fresh. Hey, but I am on a mission to try this new place out.. so had to order some. Everything was in big portions compared with everywhere else in the area and nearby Soho area. Besides being huge, they were relatively cheap too!
The hand rolls were exceptionally chunky! Mouthfuls of rice and mouth watering soft melt in your mouth grilled eel tasted especially astonishing! Crab roll salad warship was amazingly tasty – Sweet crab roe stuck on to shaved cucumber with mayo sitting on a lump of rice, all wrapped up securely in a sheet of seaweed. I am surprised at how delicious this tasted! I also downed a whole platter of Hamachi, Swordfish, Tuna & Salmon sashimi.
If you are ever in the area, do drop in and have one of those chunky hand roll. 3 hand rolls, 1 sashimi platter, 3 serves of Futomaki, 6 pieces of warships all only comes to $360 HKD. Not bad at all!
